Social Counseling

At Ebenezer Classic Junior School and Ebenezer Christian International School, we have the following Key considerations when counseling our teenagers from a Christian perspective:

Developmental Understanding: We recognize the unique developmental stage of adolescence and tailor their approach accordingly. We understand the challenges teenagers face in identity formation, peer relationships, and transitioning to adulthood.

Building Trust and Rapport: Establishing trust and rapport is crucial in counseling teenagers. We have gazetted a safe and non-judgmental environment where teenagers feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

Integration of Faith: We integrate biblical principles and teachings into the counseling process in a way that is relevant and relatable to teenagers. We help teenagers explore how their faith intersects with their struggles, values, and decision-making processes.

Addressing Social Pressures: Teenagers often face significant social pressures related to peer relationships, social media, and societal expectations. We therefore help teenagers navigate these pressures while encouraging them to live out their faith with integrity.

Emotional Support and Coping Skills: Adolescence can be a tumultuous time emotionally. Our counselors provide emotional support and teach teenagers healthy coping skills grounded in biblical wisdom. We develop individual learner profiles that our counselors use to help our teenagers manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges.

Sexuality and Relationships: We address issues related to sexuality, dating, and relationships from a biblical perspective. We help teenagers understand God's design for relationships, boundaries, and sexual integrity, while also addressing questions and concerns teenagers may have in this area through individual counseling and group discussions on selected topics.

Identity and Purpose: We assist teenagers in exploring their identity and purpose in light of their faith. We help teenagers understand that their worth and identity are found in Christ, guiding them to discover and develop their God-given gifts and talents.

Encouraging Spiritual Growth: We encourage teenagers to grow spiritually through prayer, Bible study sessions held on Friday mornings, and participation in daily morning and evening devotion sessions and Church activities on Sunday. We help teenagers deepen their relationship with God and find strength and guidance in their faith.

Parental Involvement and Support: We recognize the importance of parental involvement and support in the counseling process. We have a pastoral care system where all learners are divided into small tutorial groups headed by selected members of staff. Our counselors work in liaison with the learners’ tutorial group leaders, class teachers and the parents to address concerns, set goals, and support the teenager's growth and development.

At Ebenezer Classic Junior school and Ebenezer Christian International School, our counselors integrate these principles into their counseling sessions and effectively support teenagers in navigating the challenges of adolescence while fostering spiritual growth and resilience.
